About me

Hi, I’m Matt Knight!

I now live in Vermont but am originally from the UK. I studied Theoretical Physics with Computer Simulation at the University of York where I also began my career software engineering, initially self-employed before later working for major tech companies in the north of England. I stepped across into product management which took me first to London, before a much bigger jump across the Atlantic to California where over several years I progressed into a senior executive role, managing multiple product areas for a major global online travel brand.

Full-time RVing

In 2018, my partner and I took the radical decision to quit our full-time jobs and hit the road in an RV to travel across the US and visit all the National Parks, all while documenting it on our Adventurous Way website and YouTube channel.

Our RV adventures began with travel primarily around the south-west of the US, exploring some of the most iconic National Parks across Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Colorado and beyond.

Building a house

The global COVID-19 pandemic slowed our travels, and in late 2020 we made our way to New England. After spending the winter (in our RV!) there we fell in love, and in 2021 closed on 40+ acres of raw land on a forested hillside in central Vermont.

We are now spending our time building our own dream home - an energy efficient, sustainable, healthy and high-tech Passive House. We’re doing as much of the work as we can ourselves - felling trees, milling lumber on our sawmill, installing utilities and construction.

Technology lab

As a self-confessed geek, I believe in using technology to solve problems and improve our quality of life. Within our build we’ll be integrating high-speed networking and a plethora of wireless protocols as part of a rich, self-hosted home automation and monitoring system. On this website I hope to share what we learn in the hope that it will not only inspire others, but evoke creative new ideas and solutions.

Alongside my day-to-day life of building our dream home and documenting our adventures, I’m also open to professional opportunities including product and technology consulting, content sponsorship, and product testing & review.
